H Makgeolli in Itaewon [Pictures, Review & Directions]

We will definitely be coming back to this place any time we are in Itaewon to try out some different flavors. We have recently fallen in love with Magkeolli for its um, "nutritional values."
Makgeolli is a magical elixir that is native to Korea. Every region in Korea has their own version of the Rice Wine. Makgeolli is served up in a bottle that you can get at just about a grocery or convenience store. Which to be honest, kind of defeats the purpose of going to Makgeolli houses, since you can’t just drink the ambrosia at most places. Instead, you have to order food to get the booze.

However, if you wan’t to try some Makgeolli in Itaewon the ㅎ (H) Makgeolli house makes the visit worth it. Offering over 30 different types of the ambrosia and does more than just serves it up in a bottle.

Smack dab in the cute area of Itaewon  is a cozy restaraunt. The room is dimly lit and extremely cute. With beautiful ceramic pots that are spread throughout the restaruant. Along with some pretty awesome duck stateus.

Not only does  serve up over 30 types of Makgeolli, but it also serves up some tasty Pajeon. Not sure why, but Pajeon seems to be our go to when drinking Makgeolli. Since they had so many chances, it was great to know they offered a sampler of 5 flavors for just $2. So we ordered two samplers, and of course, Pajeon.

Our favorite ended up being Baediri. So after we finished the sampler, we ordered a bottle of the Baediri Makgeolli. For the first time in Korea, we weren’t just given a bottle! Instead they poured it into these really cute ceramic jars. Which made the experience a bit nicer! We ended up ordering two bottles of Baediri Makgeolli.

Short review of ㅎ Magkeolli in Itaewon

We really enjoyed the setting of this charming Makgeolli house and can’t recommend it enough. If there ever was a place were we enjoyed having Makgeolli this was our favorite. Mostly because it is basically just served in bottles and it doesn’t really matter where you get it. But the fact that there were so many flavors to choose from, it was very cozy and well decorated as well as located in the cute part of Itaewon made this an awesome experience.

Service was also nice and friendly, they understood english and even our broken Korean. We can’t wait to try other bottles of Makgoelli next time we are in Itaewon.
