Palm Springs is one of my favorite places in California. Not only because it’s a tropical oasis with a stunning mountain backdrop in the middle of the desert, but because the entire area seems to have been preserved from a time long ago. From the architecture of the homes, the vintage boutiques, and the old cars you’ll see locals driving around you feel like you’ve stepped into a time machine and gone back to the 1960s when Palm Springs was in its heyday.
During our latest California road trip adventure, we made it to the Riviera Palm Springs where we would spend a few days in one of the most historical and posh hotels in the area. It’s not often you get to hang out at the same hotel that Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, and Sonny & Cher once used to frequent. From the moment we walked into the lobby at the Riviera Palm Springs we were in awe with it’s 1960s inspired retro interior style.
Upon check-in, I was offered a colorful and delicious macaroon cookie and a smiling, friendly staff member. He was extremely accommodating and was able to help us get a late checkout. I couldn’t help but stare and fall in love with the lobby’s chic and colorful decor. From the living green wall to the colorful and mod furniture against the green and white patterned wall.

From the lobby to the restaurant you walk through a hallway lined with different 60s inspired sitting rooms and even a billiard table. Each room had its own style filled with vintage furniture, mod Palm Springs inspired art, and a snazzy lamp or light fixture. Each space was just as attractive as the next. I imagined myself turning each of these spaces into a stylish living room in my own home.
After getting the first taste of this glamorous resort we were introduced to our Premium Suite. We were pleasantly surprised with its large size and space as well as the artistic touches around the room including a chandelier and Marilyn Monroe painting on the wall.
The kitchen space was perfect for mixing drinks and snacking on our complimentary fruit platter. The living room had a pull out sofa bed perfect for our friend who was staying with us, a tv, and even a fireplace to warm us up on the chilly winter evenings.
The bedroom had a cozy king size bed with a gorgeous white plush and wooden headboard, a tv, fridge, and a desk. My favorite area of the room would have to be the posh orange corner lounge chair.
The bathroom was spacious and equipped with a large tub, his and her sinks with plenty of counter space, and roomy shower.
We also had our own private patio overlooking the Riviera Palm Spring’s main pool with our own lounge chairs. The icing on the cake would have to be when we discovered our own secluded hot tub outside our bedroom. We ended up spending each night soaking and relaxing enjoying the privacy of our very own hot tub.
We were extremely impressed with how comfortable the rooms were and all the amenities available that we didn’t even want to go out of the room for dinner and opt to dine in instead with our own bottle of wine.
Extras at Riviera Palm Springs
Not only were the rooms comfortable and spacious and the hotel decked to the nines but the Riviera Palm Springs has plenty of more features to make your stay pleasurable and memorable.
Our favorite feature included the free bicycles for guests staying at the hotel. We spent our first morning cycling along our friend, Kelly of Run, Selfie, Repeat as she went for a 6-mile run. As we were biking we got to explore the area a bit better and enjoy the gorgeous weather during the winter in Palm Springs. There is also a marked bike route loop through downtown Palm Springs you can follow to take you through the areas hottest spots.
If you want to have a fun night out and drink you don’t have to worry about calling an Uber or a taxi, you can use the Riviera Palm Springs complimentary Buzz Trolley to take you around from place to place worry free.
If you want the ultimate relaxation experience you can make a reservation at the Azure Spa & Salon, join a yoga class, or participate in a wet workout in the Soleil Pool.
Bask in the sun and cool off in any of the two pools on the grounds. Spend the evenings in the hot tub or next to one of the fire pits as you sip on a cocktail from the bar.
There are plenty of dining options including in-room dining, Cafe Palmetto. Cantala, Gypsy Rose, and The Landing Bar. Each of these options includes a chic atmosphere with that retro furniture I became so obsessed with all over the hotel.
You can also check their entertainment schedule to see the different performers and DJs they have scheduled during your visit.
The Riviera Palm Springs is located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs. You are a short drive or a quick bike ride from plenty of restaurants, bars, Starbucks, and even a casino. We were able to take a short drive to the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway where we rode a 360-degree turning cable car up to the San Jacinto mountains where we got an aerial view of Palm Springs.

We were also just a few minute drive from Tahquitz Canyon where you can enjoy a short hike through the desert to the breathtaking and refreshingly cool Tahquitz Falls.
We loved the central location of the hotel as it was super convenient to enjoy the local attractions and find plenty of food options nearby.
We came unsure of how we were going to feel since we read some mixed reviews on the hotel. We were really surprised with the negative reviews after our experience. The entire staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the design and style of the place were impeccable, and the room was incredibly spacious, clean, and comfortable. We loved the extras like the free bicycle rentals and the option to get a ride around town if you want to go out and drink.
I think my favorite everlasting impression will always be the interior decor. I seriously wanted to buy the entire lobby furnishings and decorate my own home with it.
We also loved the fact that the Riviera Palm Springs had such a fun history with famous celebrities like Sinatra and Elvis. I mean how cool is it that we were roaming the same halls and enjoying the same poolside as some of our country’s most famous and loved celebrities of the past?
We would stay here again in a heartbeat as we plan on making several trips to Palm Springs over our lifetime!
