What makes Xinyi one of our top picks of where to stay in Taipei is that everything is so close. As a photographer I love that there are these amazing sky-scrapers, easy to get to viewpoints, and great street photography.

WHO IT’S FOR

Xinyi is a must for every visitor coming through the city, but it's definitely where to stay in Taipei if you're attracted to good nightlife, food, and have a little extra cushion in their wallets. This area is also great for business travelers.

Xinyi is coming fully packed with Taipei 101 (once the world's tallest building), Taipei International Convention CenterTaipei World Trade CenterNational Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and various shopping malls. You can also go to the Xianshan Hiking trail to get some epic views of the city.

Xinyi an, Taipei 101 and Xianshan station on the red line are the stops you'll most likely want to be around.

Shilin is where to stay in Taipei if you want to have easy access to Yangmingshan National Park. Shilin is also where a majority of where the city's expats live and tends to be a little more spread out but still offers plenty of things to do.

Shilin is where to stay in Taipei if you're looking for somewhere a little less hectic. This are is great for families and it's also a great area for being central to alot of the great site seeing in Taipei.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Shilin is where to stay in Taipei if you love food because its home to the Shilin Night Market, which is one of the best night markets in Taipei.  Also, Shilin is where to stay in Taipei if you're a fellow cat lover because its home to THE WORLD'S FIRST CAT CAFE!  It doesn't stop there, there are quite a bit of activities located in Shilin. Including Yangmingshan National Park, Shihlin Paper Mill, National Palace Museum, Taipei Astronomical Museum, National Science Taiwan Education Center, Chien Mu House, Hwa Kang Museum, Chiang Kai-shek's Shilin Official Residence, Shilin Shennong Temple, Lin Yutang House, and the Tianmu White House among many others.

TAIPEI SUBWAY

We recommend staying as close as possible Jiantian or south of it because of how spread out Shilin is and the ability to venture on into other neighborhoods.

We recommend Tango inn because it's affordable, right there on the red line close to Jiantin and has 4-star ratings. Can't beat that.

Beitou 北投

Beitou is the northernmost part of Taipei boasting beautiful greenery of the Yangmingshan National Park. This is where to stay in Taipei if you love nature because Beitou is perfect for hiking and seasonal viewings of the cherry blossoms as well as incredibly panoramic views of the city. Beitou is also famous for its hot springs.

WHO IT’S FOR

This is great for the general traveler and families or people looking to stay a bit outside of the city. 

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Yangmingshan National Park is the main attraction for people looking to stay in this area. Also because of it's location north, it is a good place to launch from if you plan on heading to Jiufen.

TAIPEI SUBWAY

Beitou has its own subway station (Beitou station) making it convenient to get into central Taipei or head towards Jiufen.

Hotel - Spring City Resort

This was a bit tough to choose honestly. Do I stay near the subway line or do we go into the countryside? Ultimately we recommend Spring City Resort and here's why.  I figured that if I am staying this far out of the city and the area is so famous for it's hot springs and beauty, I might as well go full on. This hotel has good reviews, and just look at that pool overlooking the country side. Oh and free breakfast and a short walk from a hot spring. Heck yes, our mornings are sorted and we can watch the sunset from the pool.

Wenshan 文山區

THE SCENE

Wenshan is where to stay in Taipei if you like to be in a little more of a remote area and want some views of nature. Wenshan is surrounded by mountains and a bit removed from the city. It's mainly visited by locals looking for a break for the city.

WHO IT’S FOR

This is where to stay in Taipei if you are looking for some peace and quiet but still accessible to the city.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Notable attractions in this district include the Taipei ZooMaokong, Jingmei Night Market, Xianji Rock (仙跡岩) and Fudekeng Environmental Restoration Park

SUBWAY

Both the green and brown lines run through the Wenshan area, although there isn't a clear cut winner of a subway since it is really spread out.

ZhongShan

The Zhongshan district is where to stay in Taipei if you're into arts and culture. This area is known for being a cultured neighborhood. Take a stroll through the alleys of Zhongshan and you will discover lots of hand made goods by some of Taiwan's top independent designers, lots of hip restaurants and cultural gems like Taipei Fine Art Museum, Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art, and SPOT-Taipei Film house.

WHO IT’S FOR

Zhongshan is where to stay in Taipei for the culturephile who is looking to shop and see a fun hip neighborhood.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

There is a lot to do in Zhongshan, whether it's visit many of its parks like Rongxing Garden Park, Riverside Park or many more. There are many historical buildings and museums to choose from such as Taipei Fine Art Museum, Taipei Museum of Contemporary Art, and SPOT-Taipei Film house. As well as Xingtian Temple, and the National Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine.

SUBWAY

There are quite a few subway stations servicing this area, but the most convenient one is the Taipei Station connecting the orange and blue lines as well as getting you in and out of Taipei.

Hotel - Check inn

Picking a hotel in Zhongshan is kind of tricky because the area is so spread out and things are far from each other. The subway lines don't go through this district so well. So in doing research on a hotel, Check Inn gets our vote for a few reasons. First, its in a good location on the orange line. It also has modern rooms, great reviews, free breakfast, and comes in $30 under competing hotels near the area.

Da’an 大安區

THE SCENE

Da'an means great safety or great peace, so it should come to no surprise that this is where to stay in Taipei if you like some peace and quiet. This is more of a quiet residential area. While it still has plenty to offer you it will be a bit more calm than Xinyi's financial district. Da'an has the reputation for being where expats live which brings trendy bars to the area. Also great Jade and Flower markets under the subway.

WHO IT’S FOR

This is where to stay in Taipei if you like more of a locals only scene and a less hectic city environment.  

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Da'an might be a neighborhood for locals but it doesn't cut corners on shopping and food. In Da'an there are two of Taipei's best night markets for food, Tonghua Night Market and Shida Night Market. You can also find the original Din Tai Fung restaurant. As far as shopping there is the Ming Yao Department store, the specialty market underground that has Flowers and Jade, and the Guanghua Computer and Electronics Market. So Da'an is where to stay in Taipei if you're a foodie!

TAIPEI SUBWAY

Da'an is a pretty big district, if you want to be centrally located than you will want to be near the MRT Technology Building Subway stop on the brown line. If you want the fastest/most convenient transportation options try and stay Da'an subway which connects the brown and red lines.

Hotel - Park Taipei Hotel

If you stay in Taipei long enough you'll notice there are some huge differences between hotels, some are insanely outdated. We like Park Taipei Hotel because of it's close proximity to three subway lines making it convenient, but we also work out while traveling so having a gym and a jacuzzi, as well as ultra-modern rooms is a really nice touch. It's also got great reviews.

Shida & Gongguan 師大 & 公館

Taipei Night Market

Technically both Shida and Gongguan are a part of the Da'an district but more focused on college life and a younger crowd we decided to share them as their own since this is where to stay in Taipei if you're looking for a younger scene.

THE SCENE

This is the college town, boasting two famous universities, National Taiwan Normal University and the prestigious National Taiwan University. Since it's a college town you can expect it to be more eclectic and vibrant, filled with tons of great food spots, cool art, and quirky shops. It also boasts another one of Taipei's infamous night market. The Shida Night Market!

WHO IT’S FOR

This is where to stay in Taipei if you're looking for a younger party crowd. This is great for your 20 somethings and travelers on a budget.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Has everything to offer as Da'an, just closer to the college scene!

TAIPEI SUBWAY

To stay as close as possible to these neighborhoods you're looking at the Green lines by the Taipower building and Guting. 

Hotel - Li Yuan hotel

Li Yuan Hotel is about as good of a hotel you can find under 50$. Ultra clean and modern rooms, located next to a subway line and in walking distance of the Shida Night Market

Songshan 松山

THE SCENE

Known as Taipei's Wall Street, Songshan is where to stay in Taipei if you're traveling here on business. You'll see alot of business people in the area as well as tall buildings. 

WHO IT’S FOR

This is where to stay in Taipei if you're short on time since you're close to the airport and for the business traveler.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

The main draws near here are the Raohe Night Market, The Taipei Arena, and it's close proximity to the airport. Other noteworthy attractions are the Breeze center and the Ciyou Temple.

TAIPEI SUBWAY

There are quite a few subway stations servicing this area, but the most convenient one is the Nanjing Fuxing Station

Hotel - Simple+ Hotel

We like the Simple+ Hotel here in Songshan because it's next to two subway lines which is incredibly convenient. There are also great reviews online and nice, modern rooms. It's also got a gym which is great as if you like to workout on the road.

Wanhua 萬華區

Wanhua is where to stay in Taipei if you love emerging neighborhoods with a fun scene. Ximending is the popular area to visit in the Wanhua district and where Taipei meets its pop culture. Known for the Red House (cabaret shows) and inexpensive fashion Ximending is the neighborhood to visit in Wanhua.

WHO IT’S FOR

This is where you want to stay in Taipei if you like pop culture and neighborhood's with a bit of character. Wanhua is great for the 20 to 30 something traveler.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

Local attractions in Wanhua include the Red House, the Longshan Temple, and the Snake Alley Night Market. Make sure you stop at Ximending street where you can see lots of cute shops with affordable prices.

SUBWAY

Ximen station is the main station connecting both blue and green lines. But you can also get around by Lungshon temple station and Xiaonanmen Station.

Hotel -Diary of Taipei hotel Wanguo Branch

Diary of Taipei hotel takes the cake here specifically for its rating and affordability. As an area catering to young adults and travelers on a budget, we can't find a better rated place at a better location for a better price.

Zhongzheng 中正區

Zhongzheng district is where to stay in Taipei if you're interested in local history and culture. This is the district where you will discover Taiwan's history. Make sure to bring your camera as there are tons of opportunities to get some great photos. Zhongzheng is famous for the National Concert hall, and the four gate houses from Taipei's early history called Xiaonanmen.

WHO IT’S FOR

Zhongzheng is really one of those area's you can't miss, if you made it all the way to Taiwan you'll want explore it's history. This is also where to stay in Taipei if you want to be close to many of the site seeing attractions.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

The most notable attraction is the National Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (featured above), the Taipei Botanical Gardens, the National Museum of History, the Taiwan Museum, the National Central LibraryNational Theater and Concert Hall, the 228 Memorial Park and the Chinese Taipei Film Archive.

SUBWAY

There are quite a few subway stations servicing this area, but the most convenient one is the Taipei Station connecting the orange and blue lines as well as getting you in and out of Taipei.

Hotel - Cosmos Hotel Taiwan and Taiwan Youth Hostel

Cosmos Hotel Taiwan gets the nod from us here because it is so conveniently located, looks like an old colonial building and look at that bathroom. This is a great value with a decent 4 rating a bit cheaper than other spots in the area. Win, win, win.

Datong 大同區

Taipei Night Market
THE SCENE

Datong is where to stay in Taipei if you like culture, history, and food. Datong is known for it's Japanese and Qing period architectural buildings, especially along Dihua Street. Having three night markets you won't go hungry and there are quite a few museums.

WHO IT’S FOR

Datong is where to stay in Taipei for the average traveler and anyone on a budget.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

The area also has Ningxia Night Market, Yansan Night Market, and Dalong Night Market, so you won't go hungry. Along with night markets some of the more notable places to visit are the Tea House, Confucius Temple, Xiahai City God Temple, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei.

SUBWAY

The orange red and green lines all go through here. The best area to access Datong is Zhongshan Station because of it's connection on the green and orange line as well as proximity to Da'an.

Hotel -City Suites

We recommend City Suites because their rooms are clean, modern, and the bathrooms are great. This option is a great value and close to the subway with great reviews.

Nangang 南港區

Nangang is where to stay in Taipei if you're interested in the city's educational epicenter. It's one of the main places where people live and focus on school in the city.

WHO IT’S FOR

This is where to stay in Taipei if you're looking for a more quiet enviroment or are looking to move to this educational area.

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS

If you stay in the northern area of Nangang, by Kunyang, you are walking distance to the Xinyi and Roahe Night Market. Besides that, most of Nangang doesn't have too many attractions. The big ones are Lingnan Fine Arts Musem, Nanhu Riverside Park, Nanxing Park and Shanshuilu Eco Park.

SUBWAY

The blue and brown lines connect in Nangang, Kunyang and MRT Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station are the major lines.

Hotel - Taipei Forward Hotel Nangang Branch

Taipei Forward Hotel Nangang Branch is our pick in this neighborhood even though the location isn't so centrally located but it is $100 cheaper than the "better" location of the Marriott. The hotel is also chic and modern with clean classy rooms.
