The scene here is incredible and full of life. From all the food options, Alameda Park, and its food stalls, to museums, and government complexes. This is where to go if you are looking for the most culture and history in one spot.

This is one of the best places to stay in Mexico City f you’re a business traveler because its proximity to many of the government and business centers and also for the general traveler.

We also recommend this area if you are in the city for a short time since you can walk a good chunk of the tourist attractions and museums from right here in the historical heart of the city.

Being in the heart of the historical center is the best because you have so many of the top sites in the city just footsteps away. You have Zocolo, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the lively Avenida Madero, the Latin America Building, Palacio De Bellas Artes, Alameda Park, Barrio Alameda, Diego Riveria Mural Museum, and tons of rooftop bars with killer views of the historic center for a perfect way to spend a sunset in this area.

Roma & La Condesa

Roma Norte, Roma Sur, and La Condesa are all right next to each other and easily walkable as well as some of the best places to stay in Mexico City. We sort of lumped them all together since they are so close together but this is a fun and trendy neighborhood. Besides being just a cool place to be it’s also foodie heaven.

Who It’s For

This is where to stay in Mexico City if you’re a foodie! Also, Roma and La Condesa are great for the younger crowds as there is a hip vibe here. This is where we spent most of our time in CDMX and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Nearby Attractions

One of our favorite attractions in this area is eating your way through Alvaro Obregon, a big street full of restaurants and bars that really comes to life at night. We also recommend checking out the cool Latin America food court at Comedore de los Milagros. There’s also a cat cafe and Parque Mexico is a must!

Recommended Hotel

La Valise Hotel is a great option in the Mexico City neighborhood of Roma Norte. The hotel is a trendy boutique property in a 20th-century building that has to die for rooms and even a terrace to relax on. Each room is equipped with Nespresso machines, living rooms, and TVs. Some rooms even have a hammock and a terrace you can move your bed out to.

Coyoacan

Frida Kahlo House in Mexico City

This is another spot for where to stay in Mexico City if you love art and culture. A bit south of the rest of the city, Coyoacan is a neighborhood to get lost in. Filled with museums, colorful Spanish baroque architecture, markets, adorable shops, and cantinas. This area is famous for being home to inspiring artists for ages including famous locals Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Jose Chavez Morado to name a few.

Who It’s For

If you want to stay in a cool, artsy neighborhood that’s a bit removed from some of the main tourist attractions, then this is one of the best places to stay in Mexico City. The neighborhood is chill and laidback and unlike the rest of the city. You will want to shop until you drop here at the cutesy shops, dine at every cute cantina, and visit all the cultural hotspots.

One of the biggest attractions in the area is the Frida Kahlo house where she grew up which is now a museum dedicated to Frida Kahlo! There’s also the Leon Trotsky museum, the colorful Mercado Coyaocan, and the Plaza de Coyaocan which is not to be missed.

This is where to stay in Mexico City if you love luxury! Polanco is the ritziest neighborhood in the city and this is where you can find luxury hotels, shopping, galleries, museums, and even embassies. This is the part of the city where you will find modern and Californian Colonial architecture.

Who It’s For

Luxury and business travelers will probably prefer this as one of the places to stay in Mexico City.

Nearby Attractions

Be sure to check out Museo Soumaya here, the building is unmissable and better yet, the gallery inside is free to the public, there’s also the performing arts hall at Teatro TelCel, one of Latin America’s largest aquariums, high-end shopping, fine eateries, Museo de art Popular, Museo Tamayo, and the Museum of Modern Art.
